Frequently asked questions

Which Macs are supported?

Keyscene runs on macOS 13 Ventura or later, on both Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Where do I start?

Click New…, choose the game video, and pick the Basic (Basketball) template. You get OFF / DEF buttons and Shot, Event and Play Type labels right away. Getting Started on the start window walks you through the steps the first time you open the app.

Which video files can I use?

mp4, m4v and mov work as they are. mts, m2ts, ts, avi, mkv, mpg, mpeg, wmv, webm, flv and 3gp can be converted to mp4 when you create a project. Videos split into halves can be joined into one.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. Keyscene never uses the internet, so you can tag games in the gym or on the road.

Where are my tags saved?

Each game is saved as a project file in a place you choose. Changes are saved automatically within 2 seconds, and the last 10 backups of each project are kept. Open them with File > Show Backup Folder.

Keyscene asks me to allow access to a folder.

The Mac App Store version uses only the files and folders you choose. When you open a game or video from a folder you used before, select that folder and click Allow. Keyscene won’t ask again for that folder. Keep the video and the project file in the same folder, and you only need to allow it once.

How do I share tags with other coaches or another Mac?

Send the project file together with the video. If the video is in a different place, Keyscene asks you to choose it when the project opens. To share just a record panel, choose Record Panel ▾ > Export… in edit mode. The other person adds it to their game with Import Record Panel….

Does looking back at a scene move the video I’m tagging?

No. Scenes you choose on the timeline or in the scene list play in the separate Scene Player window, showing only that scene. The video you tag stays where it is, so you can keep tagging.

How do I change keyboard shortcuts?

Choose Keyscene > Settings… (⌘,) to change keys for playback, fast forward and more. Keys for record and label buttons are set on each button in the record panel’s edit mode.

Can I use Keyscene in Japanese?

Yes. Choose Keyscene > Settings… (⌘,) and pick English or 日本語 under Language. At first, Keyscene follows your Mac’s language.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds for apps bought on the App Store are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
